KMFA announced today that Emilio Alvarez has joined the station as the on-air host of Rideshare

Emilio Alvarez got his start in radio at a jazz station, had a brief detour in country radio, and is glad to have returned to his classical music roots. He is a lifelong cellist and served as principal cellist of the Southwestern University and Trinity University Orchestras in San Antonio, Texas, while earning a bachelor's degree in music from Trinity. Emilio has been known to perform with indigenous music groups, experimental free jazz bands, and classical ensembles all on the same night. He performs regularly with the South Texas Symphonic Orchestra and teaches a studio of young cellists, which now includes his daughter. His compositions have been featured in multiple concerts and stage productions. Starting today, Emilio will be on-air weekdays from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m.

"Emilio’s got such a wonderful background, both in music performance and composition, and in broadcasting, where he’s developed a unique skillset that combines technical and operational qualities that complement his hosting and producing for radio," says Anthony McSpadden, Director of Broadcasting and Content at KMFA. "His warm approach and appreciation for classical music made selecting him to host Rideshare a win-win. We’re so proud and happy to welcome him to the KMFA family."
