George Preston, CEO of KMFA Classical 89.5, brings over 30 years of experience in radio, nonprofit organizations, and on-air broadcasting. A native of West Virginia, Preston holds music degrees from Oberlin Conservatory, New England Conservatory, and Boston University.

His broadcasting career began at WXCR, a commercial classical station in Safety Harbor, Florida, where he served as a program host and producer. He later held roles as music director and assistant program director at WBUR in Boston. In 2009, Preston became a prominent voice at WFMT in Chicago, hosting the afternoon drive and producing the internationally syndicated Lyric Opera of Chicago broadcasts. At WNYC, New York City’s primary NPR station, he supervised the music staff and produced live concert broadcasts, festivals, and specials. Between stints at WFMT, he served as General Manager of Classical KCME in Colorado Springs, where he launched a full-time jazz service.

A former singer and actor, Preston performed operatic roles such as Papageno in The Magic Flute, Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, and Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, as well as leading roles in musicals like Kiss Me Kate, The Music Man, and Show Boat. His deep expertise in classical music and leadership in public radio make him a vital figure in the arts community.
