ONE OUNCE OPERA PRESENTS

7TH FRESH SQUEEZED OUNCE OF OPERA

FEB 21-23 & FEB 28-MAR 2 | DADALAB

Immerse yourself in dynamic storytelling!

Experience Austin’s award-winning annual micro-opera showcase – our most anticipated event of the season!

How we got here:
One Ounce Opera, in our annual call for scores, reviewed over 50 works submitted from all over the world. We lined up an engaging program of three (3) new micro-operas that will immerse you in the sonic tellings of connective, transformative, oh-so-human stories.

Short stories that feel NOW. Dynamic. Familiar, yet…not.

And you can experience all three in a single program: The 7th Annual Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera! Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays February 21, 22, 28, & March 1, 2025 at 7:30 pm; and Sundays February 23 & March 2, 2025 at 2:30 pm. We welcome you and your friends to reimagine opera in an unexpected (and immersive) space. This year, our home is dadaLab, 2008 Alexander Ave, Austin, TX 78722.

Tickets are available by donation now and include complimentary beverages from our sponsor, Live Oak Brewing (along with other options). Secure your seats for this sonic adventure today!

  • Our programming invites you to be curious.

Founded in 2012, we are dedicated to reimagining opera in unexpected spaces – whether that’s your favorite neighborhood watering hole or a creative space we transform.

OOO produces opportunities for you to reflect, recharge, and connect – with yourself, your community, a story, or a cause. We encourage you to grow compassion for a different lived experience or see your culture reflected in an impactful and affirming way.

All while immersing yourself in a virtuosic, sonic experience.

We enrich lives and bust barriers by meeting people where they are in spaces that don’t seem out of reach regardless of socio-economic status or past experience with the art form.

At the core of everything we do is this statement:
    OPERA IS FOR EVERYONE.

What's our "why?" What makes us different?

Opera is a monolith. Its immersive, transformative power has a long history of resonating with people and changing lives. But that long history also includes a lack of racial and intersectional diversity.

Since the first opera was written in 1597, the art form – and those who create it – have long represented wealthy, straight, patriarchal, cis-gendered, Eurocentric, white culture.

In direct counterpoint, OOO has long been dedicated to creating art that supports, connects, and reflects our diverse community. We center the artistic and performance work of People of Color, LGBTQ+ folks, folks with disabilities, and women – groups historically underrepresented in all facets of the operatic genre.

Of the 25 short operas we have produced, 24 have included a POC, queer, and/or female composer or librettist, and 80% have included singers who identify as POC, queer, and/or disabled.
