AUSTIN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRESENTS

HALLOWEEN CHILDREN'S CONCERT

PIRATES!

OCTOBER 26 | 3:00 P.M. | LONG CENTER'S DELL HALL

“Spine-Tingling Symphonic Adventures!”

Yarrr!  Austin Symphony Orchestra takes a daring voyage into pirate territory for this annual family favorite.  Join us as we navigate the treacherous seas of pirate fears and delights as manifested in short works of beloved orchestral music!

Don an eye-patch and bring your swashbuckling friends to participate in our Spooktacular Costume Contest – “treasure” and other booty to be awarded onstage during the concert.  All manner of witches, ghosts, goblins and superheroes are of course welcome to participate, too!

Our spirited program sets sail with Leroy Anderson’s Pirate Dance and Richard Wagner’s spooky overture to The Flying Dutchman, making way for the eerie excitement of Tchaikovsky’s “Battle Scene” from The Nutcracker. Beware the deep as we dive into John Williams’s iconic “Main Title” from Jaws, guaranteed to send delightful shivers down your spine!

From the fiery rhythms of Arturo Márquez’s Conga del Fuego Nuevo to the haunting beauty of Florence Price’s “Tropical Noon” from Dances in the Canebrakes, this concert blends spooky fun with irresistible movement. Experience the exotic mystery of Borodin’s Polovtzian Dances from Prince Igor, culminating in a whirlwind finale with Khachaturian’s exhilarating “Sabre Dance” from Gayane and Klaus Badelt’s swashbuckling selections from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Costumes encouraged! Come dressed as your favorite creature, character, or composer and join us for a magical, musical Halloween tradition. With thrilling sights and sounds, this is a frightfully fun concert you won’t want to miss!

Family concerts are designed for families of children ages 4-11 but can be enjoyed by people of all ages – bring the whole family for an afternoon of family fun!  Don’t miss our Pre-Concert Activities for Kids – including musical crafts, games and our Instrument Petting Zoo – starting one hour before the concert on the H-E-B Terrace and in the Long Center Orchestra Level Lobby.
