- Name: Philharmonie Austin + Chorus
Philharmonie Austin and Philharmonie Austin Chamber Players are comprised of many of the country’s finest period instrument players.
We have been bringing exciting and transcendent performances to Austin for over twenty years.
Under the direction of conductor Mark Dupere, the group explores a wide array of repertoire from early baroque to early 20th century, often in collaboration with the Philharmonie Austin Chorus. Philharmonie Austin produces performances that enliven the soul, as the musicians draw on a diverse wealth of knowledge from generations of performance practice research, bringing this into the live performance sphere. In addition to often-performed works, the orchestra is committed to exploring new areas of performance practice in later music. The priority of each Philharmonie Austin performance is generous and communicative music-making, bringing older musical language to life for today’s audience.
Notable performances have included Mendelssohn’s Elijah, the complete Orchestral Suites and Brandenburg Concertos of Bach, Rameau’s Dardanus Suite, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Fourth Piano Concerto, Brahms’ Fourth Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem, Bach’s St. John Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah and Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. The current season will feature the Philharmonie Austin Chamber Players in music by Mendelssohn and Brahms. Philharmonie Austin will bring performances of Haydn, Beethoven, Bach, Mendelssohn, and Schumann.
******
Philharmonie Austin Chorus is comprised of many of the country’s finest singers and made their first appearance singing A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in December of 2024. In the 2025-2026 season, we are officially launching them as a new resident choral ensemble in Austin, singing in three concerts!
Under the direction of conductor Mark Dupere, the group will explore a diverse range of repertoire from the Renaissance to the modern era. They will serve as the official chorus for all Philharmonie Austin choral-orchestral projects in the future, including their appearance with Philharmonie Austin in this season’s ‘Mass in B-Minor’ by Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition to this concert, they will sing ‘A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols’ with guest conductor Allen Hightower in December and the ‘Hear My Prayer’ concert in March.
They will aim to produce performances that enliven the soul, as the musicians draw on a diverse wealth of knowledge from generations of performance practice research, bringing this into the live performance sphere. The priority of each Philharmonie Austin Chorus performance is generous and communicative music-making, bringing older and newer musical language to life for today’s audience.
