KMFA'S MIDDAY CONCERT SERIES WELCOMES

THE UNIVERSTIY OF TEXAS CHAMBER WINDS

THURSDAY,  MAY 14 AT NOON | DRAYLEN MASON MUSIC STUDIO

KMFA Classical 89.5 welcomes musicians from The University of Texas at Austin back to the Draylen Mason Music Studio for a special noontime performance of repertoire ranging from the Romantic era to the present day. The concert will be conducted by UT's Assistant Director of Bands, T.j. Anderson, and KMFA's host of From the Butler School, Tyler Ehrlich.  

The concert is free and open to the public when you RSVP in advance online.

The program will last approximately 70 minutes with no intermission.

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE: The University of Texas Chamber Winds

The University of Texas Chamber Winds consists of advanced woodwind and brass musicians from the Butler School of Music. Selected musicians rotate between wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, new music ensemble, and other projects on UT's campus.

ABOUT THE CONDUCTOR: T.j. Anderson

T.j. Anderson is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Wind Conducting and serves as an Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Texas at Austin. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Coastal Carolina, where he honed his percussion skills under the mentorship of Dr. Jesse Willis. During his time at Coastal Carolina, T.j. demonstrated his leadership abilities as the Drum Major for the Chanticleer Regiment for two seasons and also served as a conductor for the university pep band. While at Coastal, he sought conducting guidance from Garrett Griffin and Dr. Timothy Koch.

Continuing his education, T.j. pursued a Master’s Degree in Instrumental Conducting at Appalachian State University. There, he studied under the guidance of Dr. John Stanley Ross, Dr. Jason Gardner, Dr. Regulo Stabilito, and Dr. Alexandra Dee. T.j.’s role as a graduate teaching assistant allowed him to contribute to the University bands in many fashions. He served as a teaching assistant and instructor for undergraduate conducting, band literature, and band methods courses. He also served the Marching Mountaineers, working as a winds instructor in his first year, and in his second year serving as a percussion instructor, arranging music and writing drill on various occasions. He also assumed the role of Musical Director for the Appalachian Concert Band and was a conductor of the Basketball Pep Band.

Formerly, he held the position of Artistic Director and Conductor of the Festive Brass, as well as Assistant Conductor of the Carolina Master Chorale. His commitment to music education is reflected in his professional affiliations, which include memberships with CBDNA, NAFME, SCMEA, NCMEA, TMEA, and Pi Kappa Lambda. Additionally, T.j. is an Honorary Brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and a Sigma Alpha Iota Friend of the Arts.

ABOUT THE CONDUCTOR: Tyler Ehrlich

Tyler Ehrlich completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in wind conducting at the Butler School of Music in May 2025. Prior to pursuing graduate school, Tyler lived in Atlanta, where he conducted the Emory University Wind Ensemble and served as associate conductor of the Atlanta Wind Symphony. Tyler also hosts From the Butler School on 89.5 KMFA, which airs Monday nights at 9:00 p.m.
