What DOES it sound like when you combine elements of classical music and jazz into one composition? The people at the Steans Music Institute at Ravinia in Chicago wanted to find out. They held the “Bridges” competition last year for the first time and were kind of disappointed with this year’s offerings. In this extended version of Staccato, hear some of the winning music and the many reasons why the judges – like Rufus Reid, chose the composition of Michael Orenstein as the ONLY winner of this contest.
