A Message from CEO George Preston about Federal Funding for KMFA
Federal funding for KMFA is gone and we need your help now more than ever.
What just happened?
Congress has voted to approve rescission bill H.R. 4, withdrawing $1.1 billion in already-approved federal funding that KMFA and hundreds of public radio and TV stations across the country depend on to continue serving local communities.
What’s next?
Federal funding for KMFA disappears effective immediately. This loss will leave a significant hole in KMFA’s 2025 budget. We expected to receive a payment of $140,000 from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting this November as part of our Community Service Grant. Now we are planning for the loss of that funding and the loss of approximately $200,000 in 2026—7% of our budget—that we annually rely on to operate the station.
What can you do to help?
- Make a 2-year transformative pledge of support to help KMFA bridge the gap. The loss of federal funding creates a permanent gap in our annual funding. We will need your ongoing support to ensure that KMFA continues to serve the community as an arts hub and an oasis at a time when we need music more than ever. - Start a monthly gift as a Sustainer. We will need your ongoing support to survive and thrive. If you’re already giving monthly, consider adding a few dollars a month to your gift.
DONATE NOW
This is an all-hands-on-deck moment. If you care about community-focused, locally-curated classical music— if KMFA has ever soothed you, moved you, or helped you feel connected — this is your moment to act. Thank you!
With gratitude,
George Preston
